At a time when both presidential candidates are themselves looking for support, Barack Obama has decided to support another – Jennifer Hudson. Hudson lost both her mother and brother when they were brutally murdered Friday in their home.

(This United States Congress image is in the public domain.)
Maybe it is because both Obama and Hudson are both from Chicago, but Saturday, he issued a statement which read “Michelle and I were absolutely heartbroken to learn about this unimaginable tragedy and we want Jennifer to know that she is in our thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time. We also pray for the swift and safe return of her young nephew.”
At this time, Hudson’s seven year old nephew Julian, who was in the house at the time of the murders, is still missing.

It caused her to miss last night show, but I am sure this event is much more important. Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update co-anchor Amy Poehler gave birth to her first child Saturday night in New York, causing her to miss the live show.

The baby, a son named Archie Arnett, weighed in at 8 pounds, 1 ounce. A statement released said that the mom and child are both healthy and resting. Amy had been attending SNL rehearsals right up until Friday night.
Amy appeared as a surrogate mother in this year’s movie “Baby Mama” alongside fellow SNL alum Tina Fey.

Two other dancers scored lower, but this week, it was R&B singer Toni Braxton who left Dancing with the Stars. After both Toni and soap star Susan Lucci received a score of 22 for their West Coast swing, they found themselves as the bottom two. TV legend Cloris Leachman and N’ Syncher Lance Bass both received judges’ scores of 21, but apparently fan voting saved them for at least another week.

Despite the elimination, Toni said she achieved her goal. There were concerns about her competing originally due to her health issues (she has microvascular angina), but her doctors said the exercise actually helped her health rather than hurting it.

Oh sure, the country song of the same name was good, but I am not so sure about the newest CBS reality show. “Live Like You’re Dying” was created by and will be hosted by “Survivor” veteran Jeff Probst, but the premise seems like a bit of a downer to me. The show will feature the “last adventure” of a terminally ill patient’s life and also include reunions with estranged family and friends.

Probst says the focus will not be on the person’s illness, but rather how the patient lives what time she or he has left to the fullest. I just cannot help but think the whole idea, while wonderful in concept, will just be depressing to watch. How can you watch a dying person on an adventure and not worry about what happens next? This isn’t like “Extreme Makeover,” which inevitably makes me cry – chances are, there are no happy endings for these people.
What do you think about this new show?

He once compared Liz Taylor to a zeppelin and said the Queen of England went from majesty to travesty. Fashion critic Richard Selzer, aka Mr. Blackwell, skewered celebrities such as Sophia Loren and Victoria Beckham for this fashion blunders for almost 40 years.
What made Blackwell such a fashion expert? During the ‘50s, after a stint as an actor, he worked as a fashion designer and developed his own line. He was the first designer to present his line during a televised broadcast and the first to design for plus size women. He counted Jayne Mansfield, Dorothy Lamour, Jane Russell, and Nancy Reagan among his customers.
But, it was his worst dressed list that premiered in 1960 that made him a household name. He also wrote two books, “Mr. Blackwell: 30 Years of Fashion Fiascos” and “From Rags to Bitches.”

The former host of the ground breaking show “Soul Train,” Don Cornelius, has been arrested in Los Angeles. Cornelius was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, although it is not known whom he allegedly assaulted.
The LAPD got a call from Cornelius’ home late Friday reporting the dispute. The 72 year old Cornelius was arrested, but released on a $50,000 bond later that day. He is scheduled to appear in court next month.
Cornelius began hosting “Soul Train” in 1970. The series, which focused on black music, gave many audience members their first view of such soul legends as Marvin Gaye and Aretha Franklin. Cornelius left the show as host in 1993.

Con man Raffaello Follieri is asking for less…jail time that is. Although he agreed to a plea deal of four plus years in prison, he apparently has now changed his mind. His lawyer, Flora Edwards, is asking that Follieri be sentenced to only three years. Is that how it works? You just ask for the amount of prison time you want?
Edwards says Follieri started out with good intentions, but go ‘intoxicated” with the money when he started running in the A-list circles. Oh yeah, I am sure the judge is going to buy that! Follieri will find out on October 23 when he is scheduled to be sentenced.
I also hate the way the tabloids keep running photos of Anne Hathaway and Follieri together. She is obviously trying to distance herself from him (understandably so!) and while the tabloids seem to take up for her, they keep running photos of the two together. Are there no pictures of this man alone?
