Da Brat Sentenced to Three Years in Prison
Da Brat (Shawntae Harris) seems to really be living up to her nickname. She was at mentor Jermaine Dupree’s Studio 72 nightclub outside of Atlanta last Halloween when a brawl between Da Brat and a waitress at the nightclub broke out. The two apparently had bad blood between them before the incident and Da Brat was accused of slashing the face of the waitress with a rum bottle. The victim was taken to the hospital, but suffered permanent scars from the slashing.
Today, a DeKalb judge was not feeling particularly benevolent today as he sentenced Da Brat to three years in prison then topped it off with seven year’s probation and 200 hours of community service. The 34 year old rapper pleaded guilty to a felony aggravated assault charge in hopes of receiving a lighter sentence, but it was not to be.
It seems that Da Brat can’t learn a lesson – she had to pay a fine of $1,000, perform 80 hours of community service, and serve a year’s probation in 2001 for allegedly pistol-whipping a woman in an Atlanta nightclub in 2000.
