Former Guns N’ Roses Drummer Arrested
A Los Angeles police department spokesman has confirmed that 43-year-old Steven Adler, the former drummer of the rock band Guns N’ Roses, has been arrested in Hollywood on drug charges.
The police were called to a home on Canyon Drive around 4 am this morning. The person who called said a man at the house was causing a disturbance and refused to leave the home. Police not only booked Alder for possessing narcotics, but also for being under the influence and for an outstanding warrant. Adler’s bail was set at $45,000.
As you might imagine, this is not Adler’s first run in with the law. He was charged with drug possession in 1995, when residents of a Sherman Oaks neighborhood called the police. Adler was in his car and suffering from a heroin overdose. He was arrested in 1997 and again in 1998 on domestic violence charges.
Adler was fired as the drummer for Guns N’ Roses in 1989 at the height of the band’s success (and right before they imploded). He filed a suit against the band, but the manger stated that Adler’s drug addiction led to his eviction from the band. The suit was settled out of court with Adler reportedly receiving $2.25 million and 15% of the royalties of all music on which he played.
I know drug addiction can be very hard to beat, but you would have thought the stroke he suffered from a speedball in 1996 (he still had a speech impediment from it) would have been a deterrent.
