Bernie Mac Heckled for Remarks at Obama Fundraiser

Published by lpelham at 2:57 pm under Gossip Edit This

Bernie Mac’s appearance at a fundraiser for presidential candidate Barack Obama at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Chicago turned out to be a surprise in more ways than one.

The 50-year-old star of “The Bernie Mac Show” did only a 10-minute, unexpected standup routine, but in that 10 minutes, he managed to offend many of those attending the event. What did Bernie’s set cover? He talked about family unfriendly topics such as menopause, sexual infidelity, and promiscuity. Add to that a little off-colored language, stir, and you get an unhappy crowd who paid $2,300 each to show support for Obama.

On joke in particular, in which Bernie said, “”My little nephew came to me and he said, ‘Uncle, what’s the difference between a hypothetical question and a realistic question?’ I said, I don’t know, but I said, ‘Go upstairs and ask your mother if she’d make love to the mailman for $50,000.’”

The crowd grew restless and shouted for Obama. Obama came on stage 15 minutes later trying to smooth things over by saying “We can’t afford to be divided by race. We can’t afford to be divided by region or by class and we can’t afford to be divided by gender, which by the way, that means, Bernie, you’ve got to clean up your act next time. This is a family affair. By the way, I’m just messing with you, man.”

Yeah, “just messing with you” followed by the unspoken “Dude, quit screwing up my chances.”
