Katherine Heigl Pulls out of Emmy Race
No doubt actress Katherine Heigl has the Emmy she won last year for Best Supporting Actress sitting on a shelf somewhere in her home. Hopefully, that will do her for a while as she has pulled out of this year’s Emmy race. Why? After author/award show deity Tom O’Neil noticed Heigl’s name was not on the ballot, he contacted her. She told him “I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the academy organization, I withdrew my name from contention. Ouch. She followed that up with “I did not want to potentially take away an opportunity from an actress who was given such materials.” O’Neil quickly posted the comments on the LA Times Gold Derby site.
Okay, it is just me or is she just repeatedly jabbing the “Grey’s Anatomy” writing staff in these comments? Is this just a thinly veiled attempt to get out of her Grey’s contract so she can do more movies after the success of Knocked Up and 27 Dresses? Katherine must have realized how bad it sounded because when contacted by TV Guide, her publicist refused to elaborate or clarify her comments. Also not commenting on the comments is “Grey’s Anatomy” creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes. (Photo AP)

And here I thought she showed a little bit of character in denying the nomination … Didn’t even consider another side to it.

Just makes me wonder, especially since this is on the heels of her movie success. Call me cynical…:-)
In a way I think she’s right. I’m a huge Grey’s Anatomy fan, but I just don’t think this year was the best year for them. A lot of the television shows were hit by the strike in the middle of it all, and Katherine’s character wasn’t as powerful a force as she had been in previous seasons, especially season two.

There is certainly a bone of contention buried under all of this somewhere. If she wanted to make a powerful statement, she could not have done much better than tossing this out there, then clamming up.

I’m not going to take it as a snub at Grey’s Anatomy. Every actress and actor knows that you can’t always get the scripts that are going to showcase you front and center and she just happens to believe the same thing. I don’t think she meant it in the way that some people are taking it. I really believe that she felt that she didn’t deserve the nomination because of the reason that she gave.
